Business Transformation with Blockchain + Stochastic Blockchain for IoT Data Integrity

Prof. Dusit Niyato as a special guest of NCTU-IBM iIoT & Big Data Research Center gave us a brilliant speech on Nov 1st at Engineering Building D. ED 816. He is currently a professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering and, by courtesy, School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences, at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. As a highly cited scholar, he applied and reinvented game theory and optimization to new problems like spectrum sharing, cognitive networks, smart grids, mobile social networks and now blockchain.

Different modules were presented by Prof. Dusit Niyato to help students understand the motivations of using blockchain technology in business and the new business opportunity emerging with blockchain. Moreover, Prof. Dusit Niyato tried to make students have an overview of blockchain technology applied to different applications, business, and industries. At last, business use cases in supply chain and payment (remittance) services are described and compared, which was followed by foreseeing how research can advance and address issues in blockchain technology. Bitcoin cryptocurrencies, trust in bank and other issues triggered heat discussion, Prof. Li-Chun Wang gave his opinions and discussed with Prof. Dusit Niyato.
After a short break, Dr. Yu-Jia Chen, postdoctoral student of Prof. Li-Chun Wang, shared our lab research related to blockchain. As we all know, versatile Internet of Things (IoT) applications have the potential to benefit our daily lives, but raise serious security concerns. Dr. Yu-Jia Chen introduced a new type of blockchain technique called stochastic blockchain to protect the IoT data. The cooperative nodes are randomly selected in the stochastic blockchain, thereby introducing uncertainty to the attacker.

“Ideas worth spreading”, that is also the reason why Prof. Li-Chun Wang tries to invite different lecturers with pleasure to share their ideas and researches with students. Prof. Li-Chun Wang was happy that we have arranged so many thought-provoking and inspiring talks for students.
