【Bio】
Gianluigi Ferrari is an Associate Professor of Telecommunications (with National Scientific Qualification to the Role of Full Professor since 2013) at the University of Parma. Since 2006, he has been the Coordinator of the Internet of Things (IoT) Lab in the Department of Engineering and Architecture. His research interest revolve around three main areas: advanced communication and networking;signal processing; IoT and smart systems. He has published extensively in these areas and is co-author of the recently published book “Internet of Things: Architectures, Protocols and Standards” (Wiley: 2018). His research activity has been funded by international/national public bodies and private companies, and the amount of research funding brought to his Department is over 3 MEuro. Prof. Ferrari received best paper/technical awards at international conferences. He is currently member of the Editorial boards of a few international journals. He is an IEEE Senior Member. Since 2016 he is co-founder and President of things2i s.r.l., a spin-off company dedicated to IoT and smart systems.

 

【Abstract】
In this talk, we focus on hybrid radio/inertial localization and tracking. After providing an overview of potential approaches (with various technologies) to radio-based or inertial-based localization, we discuss on the main limitations imposed by each of these approaches. We then show that hybrid radio/inertial localization and tracking techniques, relying on inertial measurement units (IMUs) with wireless data transmission, may be expedient to overcome the limitations previously highlighted, leading to more robust algorithms. We then comment on developments and potential applications to the design of future location-aware communication systems.
